There are three shops in the centre of the village including a Post Office, Butchers and Hairdressers. They are situated on Stoke Gabriel Road in an area formerly known as Skardons which used to be a small farmstead but also included the village slaughter house

The house was built in the 1830's and was home for the butcher up to 1968 when it first became a post office and shop. Gary Dear and his wife who own and run the business have been there since 1993 and can provide many essential groceries for the village shopper in addition to useful Post Office services such as post cards*, stamps, Lottery tickets and foreign currency. It has commercial contracts presently with three banks, Barclays, Lloyds/TSB, and Alliance and Leicester to allow their customers free access to their accounts.

There has been a Butchers on this site for over 100 years now and this family business has been run by Mr Savill for 6 years. They sell a whole selection of local meats and game including local lamb, pork, chicken and Scottish Premium beef.
