Schools

There are two schools in the village and a Playgroup:

  1. Galmpton C of E Primary School for pupils aged 4 - 11

  2. Churston Ferrers Grammar School for pupils aged 11 - 18

1. Galmpton C of E Primary School Founded in 1870 is a popular average sized school for boys and girls aged from 4 to 11 years old and is situated on Greenway Road. The school draws half of its pupils from the immediate vicinity and the remainder from the towns of Paignton and Brixham. " We are so proud of the many successes so richly deserved" Head Teacher is Mr Stuart Ruffe. Click here to see the Ofsted inspection report for this school for the year 2000. 2. Churston Ferrers Grammar School is a mixed selective school and is one of the very few such institutions in England. There are over 800 pupils on roll with over 200 in post-16 education. The school stands in its own extensive and attractive grounds serving the coastal towns of Brixham, Paignton, Kingswear and Dartmouth. Some of its students also travel from Torquay, Newton Abbot and Totnes. Headmaster is Stephen King B.A.(Hons), M.Ed.  Click here for larger picture of school.

Many local sports clubs use the excellent facilities and the school also supports the local and wider community by its involvement with primary schools, community service and charity work. Considerable sums of money are raised each year for the Leonard Cheshire Foundation and Children in Need. Other charities supported by the school include Oxfam, Lepra, Rowcroft Hospice and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.
