NEW COMMITTEE
Happily enough people came forward at a Special General Meeting to make the Committee viable to continue active work on behalf of the village. We want to communicate more with members, and to increase awareness and identification with GRA and the village. We want a readily recognisable logo for instance. A GRA exhibit at Gooseberry Pie Fair attracted people's interest. 2007-8 Subscriptions £2 will be collected in the Autumn.

TRAFFIC
Over a year ago 400 people signed a Petition for a 20 mph Zone.  Council officers don't think this is justified but are offering 'Traffic Calming Gateways' (signposted narrowing) at the entrances to the village.  We don't think this is enough considering the narrow lanes without paths and intend to keep pressing.  What Do You Think?

600 NEW HOUSES?
Under Govt's Sustainable Communities housing policy, Torbay Council are evaluating possible sites for such development in 5-10 years time, including on the fields Opposite Hookhills (in the Dart Valley AONB), and on land behind the Go Karts at Brockenbury (the "wrong" side of Windy Corner).  We feel the village would oppose such ribbon development into our rural surroundings and the traffic problems it would worsen. We will need to fight as vocally as Yalberton to prevent this.

OLD SEWAGE WORKS PLANNING APPLICATION
We had long understood that South West Water would transfer this site to Torbay for open space but it was sold privately. With local residents GRA have objected to development of a boat storage yard, as it would increase traffic of owners and their boats through the village and down Kiln Lane, which needs a footway. We also want the site to be well landscaped.

The Manor Inn

We understand from Torbay Council that the lessees of the Manor Inn have indicated an interest in periodically meeting with the GRA to give the local community advanced notice of proposed changes to the pub. A recent application to Torbay Council to extend the Manor Inn’s entertainments license was restricted to 11pm but this came with new, stricter, environmental health conditions, particularly on noise reduction, to alleviate local residents concerns. Chris Cox from the Council Licensing team has informed us that if there are any noise problems, residents are asked to contact Environmental Health with relevant details. Our nominated officers dealing with the case are Chris Widdicombe or Katherine Griffiths; direct number 01803 208111.The main new conditions are that noise, when measured at the outside perimeter of the Inn, must NOT exceed the normal levels of the village before 11pm and NOT exceed any background levels of noise after 11pm

WANTED
We need volunteers to be Street Reps, to distribute newsletters, collect subscriptions and alert us to new issues. The next committee meeting will be September which anyone interested can attend. Keep in Touch via our informative website -
