British Astronaut Dr Michael Foale

(Born January 6 1957 in Louth, Lincolnshire)

When Michael was a young boy he would frequently travel from Lincolnshire to visit his grandparents in Dart View Road, Galmpton and stay with them in the summer months. Even as a young boy he had always been interested in space travel and would often look into the starry skies above Galmpton, but as often happens in life, it was a set of odd circumstances that finally led to him becoming an astronaut!

You can read the article 'An evening with Michael Foale' on the Queens College, Cambridge, Web Site which describes some of his experiences on the Mir space station in 1997! Michael is now training as the commander of Expedition 8, a long duration flight to the International Space Station, to take place in 2003!

Well known BBC commentator and war veteran Kenneth Wolstenholme "They think its all over, it is now" lived in Greenway Road for a few years until his death on 25th March 2002 at the age of 81. (BBC Press release)
The Village Post Office is thought to have had links with Sir Walter Raleigh. Possibly his cousin lived here!
