Galmpton Floral Day
Sunday June 8th
After the great sucess of last years experiment to accomadate the seasonal incompatibility of Open Gardens and the Vegetable Show, of splitting Galmpton Floral Day into two, with the Open Gardens event in June ( when gardens are at their best) and Celebration of Skills days in September (when produce was more abundanat ) we decided to keep tp this pattern in 2008.
Open Gardens Day is running next Sunday June 8th with eleven Gardens open to the public between 11-00am and 5-00pm. Admission to individual gardens is £1 at the garden gate but a Garden Passport is on sale at £2-50 that allows acces to all gardens , provides a map and description of each garden and on showing it at the Manor entitles the holder to a free dessert with any main meal on the day. The Passports are on sale now at the Galleon but on the day wil be available at The Information Desk situated outside the Manor. In addition this year to give an extra dimension to the day we are running a Scarecrow Trail. Various members of the community, individuals, families, societies, businesses are creating and displaying scarecrows throughout the village, also from 11-00am to 5-00pm. To end the day we are holding a ' Words, Jazz and Folk in a summer garden' event. At 6-30pm ticket holders can bring a picnic to the Garden of 3, Manor Court and listen to the local Jazz group. At 7-45 there will be a performance of various readings interspersed by Folk music and song. In the event of inclement weather this event will be held in the Village Institute. Tickets for this are £5 but of the 60 only 3 remain unsold though if the performance is in the garden there will be a limited number on sale on the gate. This will not be the case if in the Village Hall.
On September 7th there will be the 'Celebration of Skills Day which includes four competitive Shows for adults the Village Flower Show, The Vegetable Show, The Craft Show, The Cookery Show and for children the Childrens Plant Craft Exhibition and the Fancy Dress Walkabout. All are open to villagers and outsiders alike and Cups and Certificates are there for the winning. There is a Booklet of Show Schedules out now on sale at The Galleon Stores that gives full details and entry forms for all the shows. In addition there is the Demonstration event with lace making , cookery and woodturning, The Plant and Produce Stall, the Pantry Stall, the Mini Flower Festival in the Barn Chapel followed by Songs of Praise. There are homemade refreshments all day in the Barn Hall. In fact a very good day out.
